I’m on a roll!

I was familiar with French cartoonist Raymond Peynet (1908-1999) work, as my mother worked for the firm that imported Rosenthal porcelain into New Zealand, so I was lucky enough to grow up surrounded by their pieces.

Here is an example;

I’ve always loved the artwork’s delicate charm.

Back in my op (charity) shop volunteering days I picked up this book. Although the cover art on this title causes me to wince;

& there are more examples that are not PC, the illustrations that do work for me are so romantic, so lovely, so evocative of French style!

There is humour but it is very gentle.

This book brings back treasured memories for me!
