I’m going to apologise in advance for giving this wonderful book such a scrappy review & my own poor quality pictures!
Anyone who owns a copy of this book who can give me the names of the two main photographers I would be very grateful.
I was in Wanganui (now usually called Whanganui) over Easter. My Airbnb hostess very kindly let me look at some of her books about the area & this one just blew me away. Unlike most photographs from the nineteenth century where the subjects really do look like ventriloquist dummies…
…the people in these photographs crackle with life and energy.
And shows slices from life of the time. This womenswear section of a department store called The Economic just fascinated me – I would love to have shopped there!
I would love to acquire my own copy & if I do I will improve this review!
